West Midlands Anti Slavery Network brings together partner organisations to combat modern slavery, human trafficking, and exploitation. Through direct victim support, identifying gaps, influencing change, and facilitating solutions, we strive to protect and advocate for the vulnerable in our community.
What is modern slavery?
Modern slavery in the UK refers to the exploitation of individuals through various means, including coercion, deception, and abuse of vulnerability, for the purpose of forced labour, domestic servitude, sexual exploitation, or criminal activities. It encompasses a range of practices such as forced labour in industries like agriculture, construction, and hospitality, as well as forced prostitution, forced marriage, and forced criminal activities.
Despite being illegal, modern slavery continues to be a significant issue in the UK, with victims often facing severe physical, psychological, and emotional harm.

Network Meetings
The West Midlands Anti-Slavery Network Meetings serve as crucial forums for stakeholders to collaborate, strategize, and take collective action against modern slavery and human trafficking, promoting multi-agency cooperation, raising awareness, and embodying a shared commitment to justice and solidarity. SafePlace Service
SafePlace offers emergency accommodation and support to adult male victims of modern slavery in the pre-National Referral Mechanism (NRM) stage, addressing the lack of continual and trauma-informed assistance for this demographic and providing a safe environment for reflection and healing after exploitation.
IMSA and Outreach Service
Independent Modern Slavery Advocates (IMSAs) are pivotal in establishing partnerships and relationships with key stakeholders, offering direct victim support, training and awareness on modern slavery, and serving as a contact point for professionals seeking technical advice in this field.
